  • My fireplace does not work when the power goes out.
If your fireplace does not work during a power outage, check the batteries in the receiver. For most electronic ignition units, the receiver's batteries supply power during an outage. Follow these steps: Check the Batteries in the Receiver: Ensure that the batteries are properly installed in the receiver. Replace them if they are old or depleted. Ensure Fresh Batteries: If you have installed batteries in the remote receiver, make sure they are fresh. Old or weak batteries may not provide enough power to operate the fireplace. Note: This troubleshooting tip applies only to electronic ignition units.
  • Gas is present at the valve, spark is visible but pilot flame will not ignite.
Blockage or spider web or damage to the pilot orifice and/or tubing will result in a failure to ignite. Examine the pilot orifice, and line for blockage or damage. Clear any existing blockage in the pilot orifice or replace any damaged components.
  • Piezo Igniter does not spark when pressed.
    1) Examine the electrode. If the ceramic housing is cracked, replace the electrode if it is independent of the pilot assembly. If the electrode is part of a one-piece system, replace the entire pilot assembly. 2) Inspect the mounting bracket to ensure that the Piezo igniter is properly grounded. If needed, tighten the mounting nuts to secure proper grounding of the Piezo igniter.
  • With pilot lit main burner will not ignite.
On B Vent or natural draft appliances, a tripped safety spill switch can cause the burner to fail to ignite. Allow the automatic switch (inserts) to cool down or reset the manual switch (freestanding stove). Then, attempt to ignite the fireplace again.

  • My Glass has small hairline cracks
Crazing on fireplace glass refers to the appearance of fine, hairline cracks on the surface of the glass. These cracks form a network pattern that resembles spiderwebs or shattered glass. While they can be concerning, they are usually superficial and do not penetrate deeply into the glass. Causes of Crazing on Fireplace Glass: Thermal Stress: Rapid heating and cooling cycles can cause the glass to expand and contract, leading to crazing. This is common in fireplaces due to the high temperatures they reach during operation. Age and Wear: Prolonged use and natural aging can contribute to the development of crazing on fireplace glass. Chemical Exposure: Certain chemicals or cleaning agents may weaken the glass surface, making it more susceptible to crazing.
  • What should I use to clean my Fireplace glass ?
To keep your fireplace glass clean and ensure a clear view of the flames, it is important to use the right cleaning products. Do not use Windex as it contains ammonia, which can leave harmful residues on the glass and emit unpleasant odors when exposed to high temperatures. Here are some recommended options and tips for cleaning your fireplace glass: Recommended Fireplace Glass Cleaners: Imperial Glass Cleaner: This is a specialized cleaner designed to remove soot, creosote, and other residues from fireplace glass without scratching or damaging the surface. Rutland Fireplace Glass Cleaner: Another effective cleaner that is formulated specifically for the high-temperature glass used in fireplaces and stoves. Stove Bright Glass Cleaner: A popular choice that effectively cleans and polishes fireplace glass.
  • Can I update my fireplace media ?
Yes, in most modern fireplaces, you can update or change the media used in the firebox. Fireplace media refers to the decorative elements inside your fireplace, such as logs, stones, glass, or pebbles, which are used to create a more aesthetically pleasing fire display. However, it’s important to remember that you should not replace your fireplace media with other brands unless they have been specifically approved by the manufacturer. Why You Should Not Use Unapproved Media: Manufacturer-Approved Media: Fireplace manufacturers test and approve certain types of media for each appliance model. Using unapproved or incompatible media can lead to performance issues, safety hazards, or damage to your fireplace. Potential Harm or Damage: Adding additional media or using a different brand could cause improper combustion, inefficient burning, or overheating, which could harm your fireplace or even pose a safety risk. Consult the Owner’s Manual: It is strongly recommended to refer to your appliance’s owner’s manual to verify the approved media options. The manual will provide important guidelines to ensure the media you use is compatible and safe for your specific model.
